Writing with English Language Learners

Writing in another language is an area that ELLs struggle with.  This is one of the major areas that ELLs develop last and have the most difficult time acquiring.  In this post, I am going to share the use of sentence frames.  The use of sentence frames will help students with their writing.
In this lesson, we are comparing and contrasting animals.  I also provide images and a word box of the animals.  The children created their own word box for this activity.

The use of sentence frames over and over will help the students with the writing.  From my experience, ELLs learn the best by repeatition.
Keep in mind, that it takes 5-7 years for ELLs to become fluent with the English language.  This is tool to add in your toolbox!
